I sent an email about this to info@doublebearproductions.com, but haven't gotten a reply back. I'm hoping I can get a faster reply here.

After doing your first supply run, from what I've been able to gather from watching let's plays, Davis is supposed to immediately approach you about the work you've done, and you'll have to rest for the day, which is unavoidable. This never happened to me, however. Davis never approached me, and I went ahead and visited a total of 5 different locations in the first day and have returned to shelter about 4 times. It's now past 11 pm, and the event never triggered, and I can't really progress. I have no earlier save files to return to, and while I technically am not that far in the game, I am reluctant to have to start all over and also run the risk of this bug occurring again. Would I be able to have a fix issued for my save file or something along those lines?

Did you get the tool kit and parts?  That is what you need to progress.

Don't think I have. Do you mean the toolbox? Where would I find it? Exactly what parts do I need?

The reason Davis sent you out was to pick up the toolbox and 20 parts to fix the fence.  ( I think it is a total of 20, it has been a while since I played.)  There is a hardware store, Diamondback Hardware store, in the first location you go to, Llano Commercial.   Make sure you search all the shelves, including the back room.

Yeah, I somehow overlooked that in the store- probably because I didn't know to use "z" to highlight things at the time.
