Cool comics and graphic novels

Post the cool shit you find.
A couple that I've been reading.
Britannia
Lovecraft-esque (not actually the mythos) by way of the Roman Empire. A soldier trained in seeing the world as cause and effect, not just the whims of the gods, is sent to Britannia, land of druids and barbarians, to deal with a mysterious demonic presence that is decimating the occupying legions.
Saga
Star Wars meets Romeo and Juliette with a strong streak of the absurd. A couple from opposite sides of an intergalactic war meet, fall in love, and have a baby. Saga is the story of them trying to raise their child and keep their marriage together as both sides try to kill them.
Also, it has Lying Cat.
The Black Monday Murders
A detective investigating the ritual murder of a senior executive at a Wall Street firm starts to uncover the ancient secret behind the financial industry.
Uber
In the final days of WW2, as the Allies and Soviets converge on Berlin, an experimental German weapons program reaches fruition and unleashes a new breed of human, the Uber. From the brink of defeat, Germany's fortunes begin to reverse, and the rest of the world must scramble to find a way of countering the threat posed by these deadly beings.

"Horde" aka "Jihad" by Baranko - this one is splendid, only I failed to find its English version free online

Of course it includes numerous Russian cultural references, but I guess it's easy enough to understand.

Awesome Thread! I just looked through Saga yesterday at library, I'll pick it up.
Just started reading this one, if you like vikings and Conan, give it a shot.

Great noir writing.

Just awesome, I can't believe I hadn't heard of it before this year.

Always love Clowes

Some may be turned off by the art style if you're not familiar, but he's a great writer and the drawings are really expressive, even if they look too cartoony on first glance.

We just moved to Minneapolis and the library here is awesome, they have like three entire rows for comics, other states we lived in would have like 3 shelves.

Anything by Moebius is good. You may not have heard of him simply because he was French.

Maybe! I have been a fan of this guy:

)
For a while, and was sad that he didn't put out a lot of work. Then I discovered his style is from Möebius! And the incal books are long, so it takes a decent amount of time to finish. I actually like the artist who did "before the incal" best I think.

Not unexpectedly terrible, but we've lived in Wisconsin before, so knew what to expect. When we first moved to Wisconsin, though, holy shit!

One more thing about Apocalypse Nerd, the basic story is really classic, with the protagonist being on a camping trip while his city gets nuked. If you like that kind of thing, it's awesome. It's a great companion to this film:

Been binging Birthright, a comic about a kid who goes missing, whose disappearance tears his family apart, and then a year later a man dressed like an extra from a Conan movie appears claiming that he was that kid, that he stumbled through a gateway to a magical world where he became the Chosen One, the hero destined to defeat the Dark Lord.
That's the setup, and then it gets twistier from there. It's fundamentally a story about this family and their relationship against the backdrop of this hellova cool fantasy setup that deftly plays with the tropes.
Definitely recommend it.

Short (so far) but sweet graphic format of Brandon Sanderson's work, White Sand.
Apparently the second one came out a couple of days ago, and there's one more to look forward to.

Birthright sounds good. I've always liked that kind of plot, the Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court-type thing.

Read William Gibson's Archangel comic series last night (it's short, 5 issues), thoroughly enjoyed it.
