Hi,

Previously DZ gave some solutions on the steam forums which i tried and i had scoured the internet for solutions as well. Here are some things i've tried.

1)Verify game cache
2)change compatibility settings to win 7
3) reinstall the game
4) switched to the experimental build
5) updated GPU drivers

Please kindly advise. Thanks

Hmmm.  Please post your console.log, typically in C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Dead State.  Also your system specs.

Your console.log says that the game started successfully, you played some levels, fought in combat, etc. So it's likely from another game session, judging by date from the log, it's from 6/20/2016. Have you upgraded your PC since then?

No my current PC is still new having bought since Jan this year. That was around the last date i played Dead State as well.

Was just beginning to enjoy Dead State after getting things running better in the shelter. Shame i couldn't play now. Good game to play, even if it has some issues.

i meant the date 6/20/2016 was about right the last date i played this game.

After not launching, i went directly to the directory and clicked on zrpg.exe. it gave me a (0x000007)? error.

I believe that is caused by a missing visual c++ redistributable.

Go here and install it to fix the missing dll. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

Even though it is for 32 bit systems and yours is a 64 bit, I believe since DS is a 32-bit game it needs that particular one.

The game was released prior to 2015, so latest won't work. If I remember correctly, it uses these:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679

Microsoft doesn't make them backwards-compatible, so you need to install all of them to make apps from different years work. Steam should've installed them for you, maybe it fails sometimes.

It would mean that i have to uninstall the 2015 versions. the installers for 2012 version detects that newer versions are installed and it wouldn't let me proceed.

That's weird, you definitely meant to be able to install them all, here is my "Programs and Features" window, check it out:

Also, it's probably a reason why Steam fails to install required libs for you.

I was going to recommend uninstalling 2015, installing 2012, then installing 2015 back, but thought this is kinda stupid and there should be a better solution. But no, Microsoft recommends doing the same in this situation:

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/vsnetsetup/2014/07/17/installation-failing-with-a-newer-version-of-microsoft-visual-c-2010-redistributable-has-been-detected-on-this-machine/

"RESOLUTION:

The first thing you want to do is to go to ‘Programs and Features’ and look for the presence of a runtime of later version, and uninstall it, if found. Do note that different VC++ runtimes do not interfere with each other:  for instance, the presence of VC++ 2010 will not hinder the installation of VC++ 2008."

This is about a conflict between earlier versions of C++ DLLs, but I believe this still applies.

i've unintsalled the MS C++ versions from 2012 to 2015. Then i redownloaded the game, making sure there is no MS C++ from 2012 to 2015, only have 2010 and earlier. It still doesn't work

usually when installing any game, steam will install the MS Visual C++. It doesn't go to this step.
