Truly he has created the most faithful adaptation of Skype DnD. I hope commercial success wasn't too high on this guy's priority list.

Thanks for bringing the good news Tiavals.
It doesn't matter when, this masterpiece should be released!

PS: the current (alpha?) interface does seem a bit over-simplistic, designed like a 'hello world' app, but dammit, the underlying mechanics seems just unprecedented *drool*

The development is slow, but shute, I can wait forever for this masterpiece. Please support the developers by buying copies of the original Knights Of The Chalice! http://www.heroicfantasygames.com/Download.htm

Here is the promised update on KotC 2 development - easily the biggest update ever for KotC 2!!

This one talks about the AI, spells, feats, a lava bridge and much more.

I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed preparing it.

 KotC 2 Update

Postby BlueSalamander » Wed Aug 03, 2016 9:33 pm
Hello Prismatic, development is moving forward at a good pace, no worries. I do have a few screenshots I could show but mostly I've been working on the AI so the changes are not very visible in screenshots. Spells are next so there should be some more visible stuff there. Anyway, I'm really enjoying programming the latest parts, as it's all finally coming into shape. Property wise, I have yet to complete that project but I'm working on it. Cheers

Cool, BlueSalamander is going to implement Linux and Mac support fro Fantasy Engine.
This game deserves no less indie promotion and acclaim than AoD!

PS: how come I missed the video
! No longer available

Though I *want* KotC2 to be a huge success, I still think his tile graphics system is going to turn people (including me) off in a big way.  There's doing things my way, and then there's doing things in a way that's yours and no one else's.

I totally agree with that, although I'm fine with the tile graphics.
Perhaps later on the tiles themselves could be improved with mods. Provided the engine becomes popular enough, like RPG Maker.

I actually dislike the tiles so much I'm thinking of doing a replacement set for player characters and creatures. It wouldn't be pretty but I at least would prefer it over the round tokens.

My issue with state-of-the-art graphics and the most brilliant artwork is the costs they seem to impose on everything else. I don't see such things as independent of everything else -- instead I imagine designing anything is a matter of prioritization -- strengthening one thing at the cost to something else.

I can come up with endless examples but take massive world games. In Ultima 7, the world felt as massive as any Bethesda game, if not more. But since it favored a simplistic tile-based orthogonal representation, I could traverse what appeared to be many kilometers of terrain in a matter of minutes, meaning I'm spending more time accessing very unique content in the game like the most memorable NPCs and locations instead of watching my character's running animation for hours on end and looking at some generic tree for the 10,000th time while I'm spinning the 3D camera around looking for something interesting (and failing 99.99999% of the time), and I find the former type of gameplay much more entertaining than the latter.

I love KotC even with its most primitive graphics since its graphical or at least presentation choices allowed me to breeze through those type of things I find boring like walking for hours on end and starting at my character's butt while he/she walks/runs and allow me to encounter things I personally find interesting back-to-back.

Check out Low Magic Age, too, it's so much like KotC. Also Telepath Tactics.
