Dwarf Fortress has a new release since mid-november : http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/, (with a native linux version, yay!)

Usually, there are pre-patched graphical (more or less) versions available : http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Graphics_set_repository

Battle: Realms at War

It's a (open Beta) old school fantasy-themed MMO rpg.   I believe it's an indie because all the other games by the studio are indies.

Mass Effect Chronicles

It's a lovley little ME spinoff: 2D, great art, great music, great atmosphere. Not enough content in the alpha (just released a few days ago) to say more, but I'm excited.

"The Broken Hourglass" has been cancelled. Jason Compton plans to release the material developed so far as open-source, so maybe it will get a second lease on life from some enthusiasts.

Quote
Planewalker Games LLC is formally abandoning development of The Broken Hourglass as a commercial product. I have concluded that it is infeasible for PWG to deliver the game promised, and unacceptable to try to market a product that would not meet expectations. I take full responsibility for this decision and the factors leading to the conclusion.

It is my intention to release the game materials for TBH and the underlying WeiNGINE game code in some open source/open content license model which will permit the ongoing exploration and development of the game as a non-commercial, community project. The exact licenses and scope of this public release have not yet been determined, and there is no specific timetable for this public release to happen. The intention will be to give the greater community the best chance possible to explore the potential of TBH and to honor the efforts of the dozens of people who have been involved with TBH's development over the years.

Support from RPG players and press has been overwhelmingly positive and constant during the long development cycle of TBH and I am extremely grateful. It remains to be seen if PWG will attempt a commercial project of more manageable scope in the future. Until that day, please accept my apologies for coming short of the mark, and my thanks for your interest.

Sad, though most people saw that coming. I wonder what happened? Would be interested in a post-mortem/lessons learned, I saw a video Jason did a while back about indie dev, was quite interesting.

Somenone posted at RPGWatch a while ago that Jason was going through a rough time in his personal life, but I don't know any details.

I liked the sound of their magic system - I would've been interested to see it in action. And the world they created sounded very interesting. Ah well.

Underrail, an isometric, turn based RPG

http://www.underrail.com/index.php

Seems kind of like a System Shock/Deus Ex RPG. There's ventilation shafts, hackable security systems and diplomatic solutions.

That looks really really good. Thanks for sharing.

Did anyone else find that the music resembled that of another game? I'm not sure if it's Fallout I'm thinking of, in a certain area.

It's Fallout, yes.

Underrail looks like a game I might really enjoy...assuming the setting/writing are somewhat interesting. (I don't mind occasional mistakes from foreign or indie projects - I just want something with character, uniqueness, etc.) I couldn't tell from the video whether those would finally pass muster, but they looked at least serviceable.

Btw, RPS has now done a piece on the game, so it's suddenly getting a ton more attention. Tho they did snark a little about AoD's release date. lol

... if anyone wants deep tactical combat and a genuine Genesis/SNES gameplay feeling, plus tons of dialogs and C&C, buy Telepath RPG: Servants Of God
http://sinisterdesign.net/?page_id=267

On hard and brutal difficulty levels you need to reload almost as often as in AoD to develop proper tactics  Panic

Fans of AoD should really try The Dwarf Run - I just looked for some game to ease my itch for turn-based RPGs with hard battle, and somehow got to this one https://the-dwarf-run.com/

It's RPG-TBS-Point'n'Click adventure with awful graphics and magnificent gameplay
