I guess they could make a follow-up that is to AoD what Fallout: Tactics is to Fallout?
You mean a total rape of the lore and world setting?

Which I wouldn't have minded at all had they delivered tactical combat at the level of JA2.

Well, a Ja2-type game could be awesome,

Yea, leading a team of highly trained specialists to strike a king out of some country or something like that. I would play it. :>

It could be Assassins vs IG fighting over whatever and you choose your side. Assassins would have highly skilled combatants, but you'd only have a limited number of them so every loss would hurt a lot. IG on the other hand would have an unlimited number of expendable raw recruits and you could also deploy more men per mission.

Long story short, it turns out that it's basically improv without an audience or time pressure, and a lot of rules. Every time anyone wants to attempt something, it's basically subject to a referee. Who is incidentally trying to kill you. In a fair and impartial manner." - Priapist

It could be set a few decades before the time of the game, when a bigger number of houses were still around, and cast the player as one of their high ranking knights responsible for operations against other houses.

I and a few others brought up this idea a year or two back. Sounded like Vince might even consider it as another, smaller title after AoD...but I still doubt it.

I like the idea a lot, but I'd want it to be squad-based.

It's a good idea. We'll definitely consider it.

I love seeing that this is still on the (potential) back-burner!

My view is basically that the combat engine has gotten polished to a pretty high degree, and you lot have gotten lots of experience at developing combat situations that work well for it. Given how much work went into the combat and how much fun it can be (especially with a few controllable characters, I hope), it would seem a shame not to give that a game in its own right, even if it only had 4-5 hours of gameplay.
