And, of course, much sooner than Lainestin tries to predict in his sarcastic comment.

So, that's a promise, then. Combat demo before September 2009.

Wow, I'm still kinda hoping we'll get the game by September 2009. Tongue

After the demo has been released, naturally hehe  Evil

Ahhh... bless their little hard core RPG hearts...  Grin

Any news on the world map? Got a newer better version?
Is there a dotted traveling over it? How does it work inside cities?

Would it be cool to buy maps of the cities from vendors so you have a second one, rolled up and looking like some appropriately Roman influenced map...?

Those are very interesting questions / ideas ! Grin (but maybe they're worth a thread of it's own ? Wink)

We were contacted by a well known publisher today. The publisher thinks that AoD is a "top-tier" product that simply must be on Gamestop and EB Games shelves across North America.

O.O

Look, as an all-but-registered socialist with anarcho-communalist tendencies, I am the first to poo-pooh big business and its machinations, but... dude... seriously.

Please do it.

We need you guys, all of you, to get enough money from this game to keep making games and eventually flood the market with awesome, make umpteen million bucks, buy out most of the industry, and eventually take over the moon and declare yours... okay, well, maybe not that far. But you need to take this deal if there's even a sliver of a chance of it getting you more money. Yeah, it sounds like selling out, and it no doubt is, but I'm sure you can negotiate properly to get yourselves the best deal in all of this.

Please?

Why would it be selling out?

I dont see any sense in that. It will just allow IT to ultimately sell more copies, maybe a lot more copies.
It could only be selling out if they would demand changes of the game itself for any inane reason they might theoretically have and there is no chance that Vince would accept that, or any other members of the team.

Whats to consider really? Is there any kind of trade-off?

Be careful though, once you enter in the realm of "top tier" games, your game will be subject to much different standards. I'm sure you know that already. Great news nonetheless.  Salute

There is always something to consider.

Anyway, so far it looks promising. The publisher has accepted our "not negotiable" points (we retain all rights to the setting and future titles based on the AoD world, any DRM decisions should be approved by us, etc). We'll see.

Go Merchant on his ass Vince! hehe...

Seriously, if they are prepared to let you decide on DRM and keep all the rights it sounds good.

I guess the trick might be conditioning how you do deals with other publishers or distribute the game online yourselves?
Anyway.... first hare is in the trap (substitute with appropriate folk saying of your own choice)
and others will come looking.
And then you can say "meh...we already have better offers." 8)
But you know the details of that better yourself, im sure.

However you look at it its good news for the future.
