Title: L.E. Modesitt Jr - The Saga of Recluce, The Corean Chronicles and more
Post by: SuperElement on January 25, 2018, 11:24:05 pm
Has anyone here read L.E. Modesitt Jr's work before?

I believe his first written fiction was SF and that he later wrote "medieval" fantasy in response to doubt that he could do so. He's my favourite author thus far, and the way that he approaches human interactions has ruined a lot of other fantasy stories for me. Age of Decadence's crumbling civilisation reminded me of the lost land of Cyador in the Recluce setting, which is written out of chronological order and follows various characters in a world with a peculiar form of "magic" as empires rise and fall with the characters themselves placed at a pivotal time and place to influence certain events that unfold. I found his SF books later, and have thus far enjoyed them immensely as well (though the Empress of Eternity was a tad dry for me).
