Title: Released! Post by: Vince on October 14, 2015, 08:07:27 am (http://s19.postimg.org/t7cgey5sz/Intro_Illustration.png) The Age of Decadence, our first but hopefully not the last RPG, is now available. If you've been following it or playing it in Early Access, you know what to expect (if you did play an earlier version, please delete prefs.cs file from your Documents/My Games/Age of Decadence folder before starting a new game). If you've just discovered it, "stay awhile and listen". The most commonly asked question is: What Kind of Game Is It? It’s a very different game than anything you’ve ever played. I’m sure you’ve noticed that the RPG genre hasn’t really been explored yet and most RPGs follow the formula that didn’t change in 20 years. While there were always games that strayed off the beaten path – Darklands, Planescape: Torment, King of Dragon Pass – such games were the exceptions that only reinforced the rule. The Age of Decadence is an experiment, an attempt to explore a different direction, taking you back to the PnP roots of the genre. It doesn’t mean that the game is awesome. In fact, there is a good chance that you won’t like it, precisely because we took too many liberties with the established design. (http://s19.postimg.org/r7vunjbhf/001.jpg) So What Sets The Age of Decadence Apart From Other Games? 1. The Setup Traditionally, many fantasy RPGs are about killing things, clearing up dungeons, and being a hero. There is nothing wrong with mindless fun and wish fulfillment, but we want to offer you something different. To quote Tom Chick (Quarter to Three's game critic): "But Age of Decadence wants nothing to do with kobolds, just as it wants nothing to do with Doo-dads of Unimaginable Power. The overarching idea is a crumbling society divided among three noble Houses, each fumbling around in its own version of darkness to comprehend what destroyed the world. That’s the central mystery. It plays out like noir in that you are the detective, piecing together what really happened from differing accounts, all vividly written with clear voices and efficient prose. And like a detective in a noir yarn, you can’t help but become part of the central mystery, effecting an outcome you might not have intended." The Age of Decadence is not a game about killing monsters or exploring mystical lands, but rather, surviving amid the greed and brutality of your fellow humans and carving out a name for yourself. Good and bad are purely relative. It’s a world of scheming and backstabbing in which your words and actions have the potential to forge alliances and sow discord, and your path is never certain. You get to play with seven different factions: three Noble Houses and four 'professional' guilds: merchants, assassins, thieves, and the army, all fighting for power or influence; over 100 named characters, over 750 ‘generic’ characters with unique IDs taking part in violent take-overs, assassinations, and power grabs, and over 600,000 words of dialogue: a well-developed and thought through world, believable characters, realistic motivations, but no elves, dwarves, magic, and wizards in fashionable, pointy hats. (http://s19.postimg.org/slnhiuaqr/082443.jpg) 2. Combat’s difficulty Another design aspect worth mentioning is combat difficulty. It’s a hard game. Combat difficulty is integrated into the setting. You can’t say that the world is harsh and unforgiving and then let the player kill everyone who looks at him or her funny. The game has to be hard, dying should be easy, and you should have reasons to pick your fights. You aren’t a powerful hero who can defeat anyone and save the world and it is the difficulty that reinforces this notion. Make the game easier and we’re back to the powerful hero setup. So unless you’re a natural born killer, watch what you say and think before you act or you’ll end up dead before you can blink. (http://s19.postimg.org/d49mpzzz7/screenshot_254_00000.png) (http://s19.postimg.org/5bdx0wnoj/003.jpg) 3. Choices & Consequences Choices are what the game is all about - crafting your own narrative via a variety of choices that alter the story, playing field, and your options down the road. From multiple quest solutions to branching questlines you'll have plenty decisions to make and consequences of said decisions to deal with, which is what makes the game incredibly replayable. Starting the game as a mercenary and joining the Imperial Guards will give a completely different experience, different quests, different content and points of view than, say, playing the game as a merchant (less buying low and selling high, more scheming and plotting to gain advantages for the guild), a praetor serving a Noble House, or an assassin. The questlines are interwoven, forming a large, overarching story, so playing the game only once will be like witnessing events from a single perspective, which is limited by default. You will have to play the game several times to better understand what’s going on, piece everything together, and see the full effect of the choices you make. (http://s19.postimg.org/wne7zcyqr/screenshot_291_00001.jpg) The Big Question: Should You Buy The Game? Try before you buy. Even if everything I said sounds exactly like your kind of game, try the demo first. That’s what it’s there for. It gives you access to the first Chapter, consisting of 3 locations and about 30 quests split between mutually exclusive questlines and decisions. Title: Re: Released! Post by: suibhne on October 14, 2015, 08:48:19 am I know I've been pretty un-engaged with feedback over the last few years, but it's super-cool to see this and think back to all of our early Codex discussions on dialogue, interface design, etc. Big, big congratulations, gentlemen. I'm proud of what you've accomplished. I've already bought gift copies for some friends and I'll keep spreading the word. :salute:
Also, you'd best sticky this thread. :D Title: Re: Released! Post by: Stealth on October 14, 2015, 08:53:35 am The front page of this website needs to be updated.
Title: Re: Released! Post by: Scott on October 14, 2015, 09:18:04 am Woo! Don't really know what else to say.
Really happy for the team, and for us getting to play the full game in all its bloody glory. Title: Re: Released! Post by: Venator_Helveticus on October 14, 2015, 09:20:01 am Congratulations to the release! I'm very eager to play the final version. :)
I bought the game DRM-free via your website - may I ask when the final game will be available on BMT-Mirco (it seems to still be the september-version now)? Title: Re: Released! Post by: rist on October 14, 2015, 09:30:10 am Awesome news. I've been following this game for a long long time but only ever played the first combat demo (which impressed me). I've always been impressed by Vince's vision, determination and integrity, so glad we've finally got the end result. I remember Vince saying he'd be happy if it sold a few thousand copies, well here's hoping it kills that!
Title: Re: Released! Post by: Arzar on October 14, 2015, 09:42:14 am And it's not even Thursday !!
Huge Congratulations VD, Oscar, Nick, all the team. I follow Aod progress since the Codex day, it seem such a long time ago, I can't believe you managed to keep going strong for so long. :salute: Title: Re: Released! Congratulations, Gentelmen! :salute: I backed you up around three years ago (don't even remember exactly) and patiently waited for the full release. The demo versions themselves that you provided were already great, but now... now you've made it and we get to experience the game in all its glory :D Many thanks! I wish you the same passion and dedication in working on your starship RPG and the biggest AOD sales you can possibly imagine! Title: Re: Released! Title: Re: Released! Post by: Nick on October 14, 2015, 12:16:01 pm Thanks for being with us for all these years. It's a cliche thing to say that "we're nothing without our players", but you know how we roll and how much your feedback on this and RPGCodex boards has influenced the game, so it's much more than generic "thank you". We've built it with your help. I'd hug you all, but it's not heavy metal thing to do, so :brofist: =)

Here's hoping you reconsider making the boxed version available, I can't shake the feeling the demand *is* there. Title: Re: Released! Post by: GhanBuriGhan on October 14, 2015, 01:34:29 pm *uncloak* Hi, I just wanted to come momentarily out of hiding to congratulate Vince, Oscar, Nick and everody else to the release of the game. If my profile is correct I registered here about 8 years ago - and I rember those first 2D screenshots on the Codex even before that... can you imagine! And you made it! I salute your incredible perseverance and dedication. :salute: And I really mean that! You took so long that I basically ceased to be a gamer :( , but I shall give AoD at least a playthrough, promised! You released your first commercial game, and an unusual, strange, unique game it has become. I wish you every success, but I know the journey has already been worth it for you guys. Thanks for letting me participate in this adventure in a small way. The interactions at Iron Tower are among the best things the internet has given me. Cheers! *cloaks*

(I'll play the game tomorrow, but I've got to admit tonight I'm overcome by a strange sense of nostalgia, thinking back to all that time since I first started following the game nearly 9 years ago.)

If my profile is correct I registered here about 8 years ago - Man, can't believe it has really been this long.. but my profile info also gives me the date of december 2007, almost 8 years ago, well.. time is a strange creature. Anyway, congratulations to Vince and his team, it takes a unique kind of person with a strong vision and lots of dedication to work on something for this long, not for mere profit but for something greater. I hope it was well worth your time and it enables you to create more of these amazing stories. Despite following the development for so long, I played your game for the first time today for 2 hours and have to say it was well worth the wait, the truly excellent writing being my favorite part of it so far. Hope it all goes well. While I'm here, does anyone plan on going to GDC next year? Figured I might check it out, see what all the fuss is about and suchlike. Any other ITS eventitude plans? I've been following this game from the very beginning and Vince's commitment to his vision has been something to behold. Taking ideas developed over years of discussing, often tearing down, other games and actually bringing them to fruition is a great achievement. The integrity, honesty and openness of the ITS team over the years has been most impressive. May it bring you much success. :salute: Won't get to play it till later today (work and such), but looking forward to it. Title: Re: Released! Title: Re: Released! Post by: arkhometha on October 14, 2015, 05:44:38 pm Congratulations on the release, Iron Tower. I heard of the project back in 2012 (maybe before that), I don't remember how, and I knew it was in development for a long time already. I played the first build (or was it a demo? No, not the combat demo) of the game that only had 2-3 places IIRC, and I fell in love with it. It convinced me to buy it (and I'm still hoping we can get GOG keys since I never claimed a Steam one in the hopes GOG keys come around). I stopped playing and reading the monthly updates to not spoil the story, so sorry for being selfish and not helping in the bug testing process.
Anyway, hope you guys enjoy the break and get some good sales. I know you guys worked very hard on this and for a long time. Title: Re: Released! Congratulations on the release, guys! It seems the game is doing really well and getting good coverage. You've really deserved it. Title: Re: Released! Post by: Oscar on October 15, 2015, 09:04:52 am :D
Title: Re: Released! Post by: MidnightSun on October 15, 2015, 09:59:49 am I too will come out of hiding.
The game feels like the first innovation in choice and consequence in years. I've always wanted RPG's to develop in that direction. You had the vision to do it. You can feel justly proud of what you've created. Bought it for myself and a friend. Title: Re: Released! Title: Re: Released! Title: Re: Released! Post by: Smyslov on October 15, 2015, 12:18:17 pm I created my account here on May 15, 2011. I don't remember if I've ever posted (and I haven't logged in here in a couple of years), but I've kept this site bookmarked, and have been keeping up almost weekly since I found out about this game. My anticipation has been kept on a simmer, and now it's time to turn the heat back up! Congratulations, and I look forward to finally getting into this tonight!! Thanks for being among the (very, VERY) few game designers who actually remember human beings have brains.
EDIT: And I went ahead and just bought the thing while still at work, so add one to your sales for the day! Title: Re: Released! Post by: Oscar on October 15, 2015, 12:42:06 pm Thanks!

Title: Re: Released! Post by: Corvinus on October 15, 2015, 01:21:27 pm Well met!
I've followed the development of this game since the combat demo days, though not quite as often these last years. To make things right, I waited until thursday to buy it (how *dare* you realease it on a wednesday, after all this time? :smug: ), and I'm quite sure that I won't regret the purchase. In fact, I feel we do have have similar beliefs regarding what constitutes a good RPG (which seem to be nonexistent these days if we don't count AoD). Congratulations, and good luck in your future endeavours (that goes out to the forum regulars here as well)! Vale, Corvinus :salute: Title: Re: Released! I've got to wait till the weekend before I can play; it's funny how I'm impatient for it, after so much time already spent on the early access. It goes a long way in saying what a masterpiece you brought out! Title: Re: Released! Post by: Nazarene on October 15, 2015, 03:00:23 pm Congratulations :salute:
Tomorrow at work I'll try to convince a couple of colleagues to buy your very nice game. May the Generation Ship RPG come swift. Title: Re: Released! Hope you'll make more of these. Title: Re: Released! Post by: stony3k on October 15, 2015, 05:50:38 pm Just came here to say Congrats!
Title: Re: Released! Post by: TheGreatGodPan on October 15, 2015, 05:55:09 pm I pre-ordered this back in 2012, though I was already out of gaming. I haven't even completed any of the demos (dying is easy in this game). But I'm downloading it now and psyched to see what's in the completed game. Congratulations, Vince & crew! A lot of amateur developers wouldn't have stuck it out this long. A quick googling show's Cleve Blakemore still hasn't finished Grimoire, so take that!
EDIT: It says I'm missing x3daudio1_6.dll. I'm on a new Win 8 laptop, which already has DirectX installed and XAudio2_8.dll in Windows\System32. I used the link from BMT to download the zip, maybe that's out of date and I should be using the steam key? EDIT2: I signed up for steam and installed it with a key, and that required a lengthy step of installing DirectX. But now it runs! Title: Re: Released! Title: Re: Released! Post by: Lomer on October 16, 2015, 09:03:27 am Congrats, guys!!! What a monumental effort! I bought the game during on Steam during early access but I will (barely) restrain myself from playing it until it is finally patched and updated (after 3-6 months I guess). Now move on to the dungeon crawler and the colony ship projects with immediate effect:).

I preordered my copy more than 3 years ago. I have any mail but the purchase confirmation ones with the link to the beta and the forum account confirmation. I remember i got some sort of code to upgrade my forum account, but i can't rember what it was and if i had some problem to use it. It is passed too much time and i have no mails about. However. Now the game is avaible, where and how i can get my copy now? I still have mail with all informations about my preorder. Title: Re: Released! i have played for a bit and want to try all the different classes. so far it does remind me very much of the good old pen and paper days from the '70's and how the first task i became good at as a player was rolling up a new character. again and again. then i started to get the hang of it and actually lived long enough for level two. Title: Re: Released! Post by: Vince on October 17, 2015, 11:55:17 am I don't know where ask for that. The email from BMT should have the download link and password. Sorry for my silence regarding testing and feedback lately. My personal time has shrunk a lot and also, I must admit, after playtesting the game more and more I felt I was spoiling my experience of the full game, and intentionally stopped testing until the game was complete. Truly, there is no game out there like Age of Decandence, and I look forward to playing the final version and seeing my characters finally reach the end of their journeys (when they don't die miserably on the way there). Once more, congratulations! :salute: Title: Re: Released! Post by: CappenVarra on October 18, 2015, 03:03:42 am Congratulations, gentlemen :salute:

Time to put that preorder copy to good use. Teron was already a blast in the first public beta incarnation, can't wait to see the rest. Now start working on the generation ship thing. :smug: Title: Released! Post by: Deuteros on October 18, 2015, 06:35:52 am While I understand that Steam is the main focus as far as digital distribution platforms go, and that this forum and RPG Codex's are your priorities when it comes to fan / customer interaction, I'd still love to see one of the developers drop by GOG's forum (http://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_the_age_of_decadence_091dc).
Albeit smaller, it's a passionate community and the perfect audience for a game such as The Age of Decadence. I was actually surprised that this game wasn't better known around there but I'm sure the attention can still be drummed up. Title: Re: Released! Do upload the standalone demo so I can spread it everywhere. Title: Re: Released! Post by: Astorius on October 18, 2015, 10:21:14 am Btw next to my AoD icon in Steam i have Age of Decadence [test] - do i need change it from beta to to normal game or i already have the complete game?

1. Where can i find a materials merchants (lumber - im looking for it to make custom buckler) in Madoraan? Maby im searching in wrong part of the traders district? Can someone give me directions? 2. What can i do with the minerals from mining outpost (quest from Taran)? For now thats all. Great game, glad i bought it. True Role Playing Game - i like that you can talk your way out most of the time. Title: Re: Released! Title: Re: Released! Post by: John Yossarian on October 24, 2015, 10:17:54 am Hello everyone. Im new to forum and game so i have some questions. IF you're playing someone who needs shields, by the time you get to Maadoran you should have killed a few people with shields that you can decompose to get lumber. If not you can buy a couple bucklers, decompose them, make yours.1. Where can i find a materials merchants (lumber - im looking for it to make custom buckler) in Madoraan? Maby im searching in wrong part of the traders district? Can someone give me directions? Quote 2. What can i do with the minerals from mining outpost (quest from Taran)? The blue steel? THat you can use to make kickass equipment. The alchemy ingredients in the barrels? You use those in alchemy screen to make fire bombs, acids, etc.Title: Re: Released! Title: Re: Released! Post by: Curmudgeon on November 12, 2015, 06:33:27 pm Just wanted to give another late congrats to the team! I have been following the development from the shadows for what must have been at least six years, but have avoided playing any of the alpha/beta releases so as to not spoil anything. I didn't realize it had been released until I made my monthly visit to the forum, so I have not bought yet but will be doing so shortly!
I know there are some threads scattered around on this forum and others regarding sales figures, I was wondering if perhaps a stickied topic here with total sales figures from the various outlets updated monthly or so would be appropriate? I know it was always fun to check out the pre-order figures over time (even for a non-patron of the fucking arts such as myself). Title: Re: Released! Title: Re: Released! Post by: Addlcove on December 26, 2015, 06:46:16 am Are there anywhere in the game where I can learn the schematics for the Ordu Hats and/or the silk clothing stuff so I can craft my own masterworks of them?

Title: Re: Released! Post by: Vahha on December 26, 2015, 06:47:37 am This seems a rather inappropriate thread for the question, but to answer it, no. There are only leather, light metal, and heavy metal armor schematics.
Title: Re: Released! Post by: vlog on February 09, 2016, 03:06:18 pm Sorry, I'm new, so don't blame me for questions in a wrong thread :)
Q1: Where should I buy the game to best help the project: a) The official site b) Steam c) GoG d) ... Q2: If I buy the game over the official site, will I be able to update the game somehow, if there will be new versions? Is there an updater or something? Title: Re: Released! Post by: Vince on February 09, 2016, 03:48:45 pm Whatever is more convenient for you (if you have an account on Steam, buy on Steam, etc). If you buy directly from us, we'll offer you a key of your choice (in addition to direct download): Steam or GoG.
We update all 3 versions: BMT, GoG, Steam, but we always update Steam first because it's easier (we can upload a build on a test branch, roll back if necessary, etc). BMT and GoG are updated a week later or so. Title: Re: Released! Post by: uzerrr on February 22, 2016, 10:23:57 am Any time soon GOG will be updated? :)

Title: Re: Released! Post by: Pladio on February 22, 2016, 04:39:00 pm Any update on total sales and on whether the Colony Ship RPG requires more funding ?
Title: Re: Released! Post by: Vince on February 22, 2016, 07:46:42 pm A bit shy of 35,000 copies.
So far the plan is for me to finish all dialogues and text for the dungeon crawler (I'll need another month), then start working on the CSG's systems, locations, and quests. Nick, Ivan, and Oscar will spend 2016 putting the dungeon crawler together. If everything goes well, by the time the crawler is out (end of 2016), we'll have everything mapped out and ready to go. Then by the end of 2017 (a full year of work on the CSG) we'll know where we stand and whether or not we can release it on Early Access by the end of 2018. Hopefully, AoD + the dungeon crawler can keep us in business for 2 years (2017-2018), working full time. Title: Re: Released! Post by: Pladio on February 23, 2016, 03:38:43 am Good luck. My hybrid seems showered with SP, yet the difficulty of combats is just adequate. After all, I know all optimized routes and all tricky tactics. And I'm yet to discover the Arena extension in Maadoran and that silly drunkard Cadmos, and then the updated temple. The latest version is as enjoyable as the game has always been, ITS always maintain their high enjoyability standard! Still I'm hoping for an Enhanced edition with (yet) moar bells and whistles! Post by: Vahha on May 16, 2016, 04:57:42 am So, now the Ordu at the arena are as brutally tough as they used to be, the swordsman tank alone can kill you easily when you have got 38 HP left, it takes him 3-4 turns only in close combat. That's kinda cool, makes you consider using various resources like nets and poisons.
