I'd swap their places, the way it's now implies that the portrait is yours and not Feng's.(snip)
this
these are better than the portraits in any commercial game. incredible. is it too much to ask for pc portraits?
and this. but the in-game shot to represent the PC is alright as well. a horizontal flip so the portraits face left would be good too so as to not give the impression of the NPCs "looking away" or something. or maybe thats just me. anyhow, the portraits are great.

Pretty flippin' awesome, I must say. Those would make outstanding in-game portraits.

I'm wondering what would the dialogue screen look like with a portrait completely replacing the ingame screenshot (i.e. with the screenshot kept only for NPCs without a portrait)?

It's not a screenshot, the game is running there, and sometimes animations are played.

I have to say that for such a small change those portraits make a big difference. This makes me think of all the missed opportunities for NPC portraits in other games, Ravel for instance. I think adding these for as many characters as possible will go a long way towards improving the look and feel of the game.  I don't really care how long anything you do to the game delays it, every time I look at this game it gets better and better. The polishing is paying off and all the small additions are adding up.
That being said, the sooner you release the combat demo the sooner my OCD habit of checking the site every 5 seconds can be put to rest.

Also, for some reason the portraits remind me of Betrayal at Krondor, I don't know why.

While I think that painted portraits would fit better with the rest of the artwork shown so far (the map, menu screens, and so on), I also realize that beggars - including independent game developers - can't be choosers. Cohesion of the artstyle aside, the 3d work is really good, so if the price is fair, I say go for it.

Absolutely fantastic. They could use some retouches to wash off the unrefined feel of 3Dness, like you can tell that they're 3D (is it just me getting this?).

I only dont like Fengs. Not because it isnt awesome on itself but because the face seems too serene even naive... to much for such a bastard.

Quote from: 2 Corithians 11:12-15
But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

I know, i know... but still.

My main objection actually is that it looks like any other old oriental guy cliche.
Anyway... the description of Feng is too good to match but since the artist is a genius maybe my modest remark will prompt him to do even better eh?

First things first, a hello from myself to the dev team and the rest of the forum, this has to be one of the most promising games i have seen in a long time and i'm really looking forward to trying out this game when it gets released (On thursday Tongue).

I've been reading through your forums for a bit now and had to comment on these portraits they are great, i'v always found that rpg's that don't add unique portraits and go with the horrible 3d rendered faces look ugly, in the portrait department that is.

I shall continue to keep track of this game, and it'll be the first indie game i have supported, a big hello from London, England!

Whoever this mysterious gentleman is, he did a phenomenal job. It's fantastic that even at this stage of development, the game is receiving an extra layer of polish.

so, does it mean another delay, Vince? a couple of months I can imagine.

It's not like all members of the team focus on one and the same thing. By the time the bugs and balance issues are ironed out, portraits will be finished, I reckon.

It doesn't. Well, Oscar would have to spend a day or so changing the dialogue interfaces (different resolutions).

Great! I love all of them. I always thought that AoD is lacking character and NPCs portraits.

Perhaps there will be communist-like faction and on the top of organisation will be Putin. And there have to be some deep secrets, perhaps they try to revive Stalin?
