The trailer obviously caters to young and casual player and as such it does its job well as seen by youtube comments.
Thats why i said it narrows target groups to just that kind of demographic.
Though, of course... what does it matter if their whole marketing campaign drove away few hundred or maybe few thousand people like me world wide if it gained them more thousands of other kinds of customers.

Precisely my point. "That kind of demographic" is just more easily swayed to buy a game than you(not to mention that it's much more numerous), since even some of the more normal RPGCodexers and many ITS members recommend the game and say it's best BW game since BG2 and you still are unconvinced. And if you don't like the Bioware-styled games so their recommendations don't mean anything to you, then you never were a target for them in the first place.

Oy...Oy... Easy on preconceptions will ya?

A normal post about the game on the codex is harder to find then a virgin in hell.
Im currently waiting for Vince to post more of his impressions alongside few good ones by Starwars and other members here.

The fact remains that their marketing campaign drove away a lot of people because it concentrated on shallow action hype.

btw Baldurs gate 2 is one of my favorite and most played games.

As I said in the DA Impressions thread: the person responsible for DA's marketing should be fired, re-hired, then fired AGAIN for good measure.  Then maybe punched in the head.

I may say that I wasn't the first one to jump up with preconceptions   Evil.

Do you have any figures about people driven away by their marketing strategy or is it a guess, based on few people complaining about it on the forum? I don't think you do. TBH I don't find the trailer to be that bad. It's a bit on the emo side rather than screamo(seeing as either is popular in states and Europe are you suprised that they choose this "path"?), but it plays well along the spirit of the trailer. I rather have this than another LOTR inspired music or rehashing title music from "Requiem for a Dream". At least it's something different. And it surely achieves it's goal, so no, I wouldn't fire anyone from marketing department.

The intentionally horrifyingly bad "heavy metal" band from the intro to Brutal Legend, Kabbage Boy.

That moment in the demo when Eddie facepalms after hearing this shit immediately sold the game for me. As soon as i finished DA i will be playing Brutal Legend Smile

Please take note that as a game it's not as good as Psychonauts was. The RTS mechanics never really give you a chance to get used to them in single player but they become the main focus rather quickly.

As an experience though, it's fucking awesome. If you're a metal fan then playing BL is mandatory.

Enjoy next few years of socalled action RPGs selling you the same shit over and over only repackaged into "newer" graphics. With a different theme song here and there.

I asked you a simple question. You're saying many people were turned off by DA marketing. I wonder on what basis do you claim so.

The fact that 30 Seconds to Mars is an inappropriate choice of music to go with a high fantasy action sequence is not a preconception. I didn't start laughing my ass off until about a minute into the trailer.

So? Tell us the literal translation and then explain what the connotations are.

I had an old mechanic on my first cargo boat. He would sometimes require me to "help" him with something which meant he saved me from back breaking work so he would have someone to talk to while he did his job and i basically watched.

He was a bit legendary because of such moves and his general nature so everyone liked him.

He once said to me: caster my boy Smile... when youre really, really mad at someone... dont kill him. Thats stupid.
First you will probably end up in jail and anyway killing him just makes him have no problems anymore.
When youre really mad at someone... you take (this specific over a meter long cast steel bar which was one of the tools on the boat) and smash his ankles.

truly...words of wisdom.

There, that wasn't so hard.

And look at that, 800 posts. How did I ever let myself waste so much time here? I've got important stuff to do, like not working, looking for work, feeling disappointed that work is so hard to come by, and watching cartoons.
