Ugh, you are tantalising us, Mr. Weller. Sometimes I wish you had a publisher peering over your shoulder demanding you release in time for Christmas filled with bugs galore. Would give the Codex something to chew on, at the very least. At any rate, how many of these quests will be mutually exclusive? This has probably been covered elsewhere, but I am interested in seeing how doing certain quests will prevent others. Is there a reputation system (especially with regards to factions) that allow/prevent one from taking certain quests based upon a meta reputation, or are there 'threads' which work on an individual basis, with taking a quest allowing another to be taken, and cancelling out other (potentially rival) ones? Would be interesting to know how the faction mechanics work.

"Let's use Teron as an example.

You have 4 main story quests.

3 quests per faction (House Daratan (different from the main quest), assassins, merchants, thieves, imperial guards) = 15 quests

5 side quests, including solutions to the previously mentioned quests. For example, IF you're working for the Thieves Guild and IF you decide to handle one of the quests in a certain way, then the price for securing an NPC's support is doing a quest for him.

So, overall we have 24 quests plus 7 vignette quests, so that's 31 quests right there. However, when you are playing the game you'll get 1 vignette quest, 4 main quests, up to 3 faction quests, and up to 3 side quests, so that's only 5-11 quests."

Of course there is a faction reputation system.

Quests' solutions adjust reputation. For example, doing this merchant quest without Cado's help doesn't affect your relationship with the thieves guild at all. Intimidating Cado and forcing him to help you will greatly decrease your reputation with the thieves guild. Agreeing to be a double agent increases your rep with the thieves guild. There are several ways to deal with Marius once he is in your debt. One will decrease your reputation with the Imperial Guards. Needless to say, getting the info from him will increase your rep with the merchants guild.

Negative reputation has 4 "consequences" levels: no quests, no access ("not welcome" here), attacked on sight, assassins hired. The last option should be avoided. AoD top assassins are good.

Does lowering a reputation with one faction immediately leads to "no quests" from them or is that somewhat gradual?

Any thoughts on my suggestions about specific situation of dealing with Cado and introducing more information about NPCs crucial for certain quests? As well as expanding and fleshing out dialogue in some places?

and what are the exact border lines between such levels (I mean the reputation-amount) ? And are these reputation levels specific for each faction, or independent of them ?

Depends on what you do. It's possible to bypass all the steps and jump to the top of a faction's shit list. Be creative.

I meant - is it possible to do just one smaller thing against the faction and immediately get banned. Like if you threaten Cado and loose reputation with thieves guild.

Is the first penalty loosing possibility of doing quests for them - at once?

-edit-
Im not trying to be stubborn here. And im not sure am I making myself clear.
Im just trying to make it clear whether the first transgression against a faction will immediately result in "getting no quests" from that faction - which seems to be the first consequence in your list.

Naturally, if its some big transgression its alright. But if its just a minor one?

Um... is it possible to do quests for a guild without joining it first? I don't think you can join several guilds.
