Since you already have a talented comic artist on the team, why not screw isometric 3D graphics and go for comic book frames? It doesn't look like the game will have much combat, nor much use for precise maneuvering of the character around the environment, and it would greatly benefit from the artistic freedom such an engine would offer.

I agree, although I have in mind something similar to old Legend games like Gateway. Check this out (look at the screens):

Such a style would give you the opportunity to present your superb writing, which complemented with good static graphics and proper design would be a blast imo.

I've played games like that before, I'm not so sure if it would work with this game though. Lets see what other people think.

I think a game like this needs SUPERB writing. Like top notch, can't be any less. That alone is a hell of a task, so you shouldn't bother much with graphics. In this kind of game you read, and if what you read ain't great, ain't no graphics gonna save you.

I don't know about completely static panels, but a third person character against a static background worked well in Syberia.

Very excited about the news of game!

As far as the graphics go, for some reason I pictured something similar to the isometric work being done in AoD...

Would that not be a good thing?

Roland is correct.  That is what's planned.  I don't have anything against static, isometric backgrounds, like in ToEE, but Team Omega is going to follow Vince's lead regarding the game engine and basic style, ie. 3D modeled world/characters, isometric moving camera.  That's the final word on graphics.  The good news is that other forum members are right now working on more radical graphics (or in one case graphics-less) experiments.

Regarding the writing, there are several pieces available to peruse right here in this forum!  I agree 100% that the game will rest on the writing like the foul statuette of Cthulhu on his pedestal.

I would prefer AoD style of graphics rather then comic book style.
Just giving my vote.

Personally, I prefer the in game stuff like exploration and combat to be isometric.  I can see Team Omega pulling off a system where the dialog and written pieces have a graphic novel approach.

I wonder who did that review and took those screenshots. He must be a great guy! Grin

Anyway, I'm personally fine with the isometric 3D. I just hope there will be plenty of those "text-based scenes with painted slides" that are mentioned in the FAQ. I hope there's also going to be plenty of text-based scenes which offer choices, but I guess that's a different discussion.
