I quite like it. What racial caricature is it based on?

If you can't tell, I guess it needs more work, but we were going for "Troll".

Quoting out of context FTW! Saying that the original Lovecraft's works are the main source of the inspiration is not the same as saying one will stick to them as closely as possible.

Of course I'm busting his balls; but my point (if you can call it that) is that it seems a little hypocritical to dismiss others' contributions to the Mythos as inferior, and then going ahead and creating your own original cosmic horror.
How exactly is what Scott is showing inconsistent with Lovecraft? And I believe all Scott said was that he was going to use Lovecraft and his contemporaries as guidance, but not the later stuff.

I've had the misfortune to hear about a modern author's GOO that looks like an onion (Oorn), and Clark Ashton Smith had a demon flower (Vulth-something?) that bears a certain resemblance.

Ahhh good, this thread has settled down and I can safely weigh in.

Firstly I have petitioned Scott many times to change Cyclopean to a Clark Ashton Smith game. He persists with Lovecraft for some reason or other.

Secondly, I LOVE the onion. Seriously, I love it. Creepy, bizarre and just what we need.

Onions make you cry by just looking at them. If there was any food which was considered badass, it has to be an onion.
