Eyeman, who volunteered the first Cthulhu concept below, has been working with me over the last while to realize this demon I've had in mind for several months, tentatively called "The Speaker".  This isn't the sort of fellow with whom you're likely to get in a brawl in some back alley speakeasy.  I provided the details and Eyeman provided what we at Iron Tower Studio call "the hard work".  The images are in chronological order of their development.

Very nice work! Love it! Can you tell us more about this creature?

BTW, one of the concepts is repeated.

Looks great. Though i expected more mouths then eyes when reading its name Smile
I guess the top of it is some kind of mouth, right?

Its cool to see different iterations like that too.
I guess were in some interesting monstrosities in Cyclopean then.
 to Eyeman. Welcome abroad. Tongue

As for Cthulu,  it would be interesting to see one with his face made out of tentacles - including eyes, as opposed to usual depiction of his head where tentacles are around his mouth.
It would look freaky.

Very, very nice work. Reminds me of Giger's style a bit.

Does this mean the game is no longer strictly "Lovecraft purist"?

Hmm, I think I like 7a best, the final is a little too much like an onion.

I think I can say it never was, although I'm not sure what you mean exactly.  Lovecraft's stuff needs some bending to make it into a fun RPG.

@Wrath:  my original concept was onion-shaped and I constantly said More onion, more onion! at every iteration, so I take all the blame for that.

There's not too much to say about him.  He's about four feet tall.  He is summoned during an intermediate rite by a certain organization in which you may become a member.  He is invisible to the summoners, who only hear him speaking, but if the player is corrupted, this is one of those times he would prefer not to be.

Quoting out of context FTW! Saying that the original Lovecraft's works are the main source of the inspiration is not the same as saying one will stick to them as closely as possible.

Of course I'm busting his balls; but my point (if you can call it that) is that it seems a little hypocritical to dismiss others' contributions to the Mythos as inferior, and then going ahead and creating your own original cosmic horror.

For the record, I think it's good he's not limiting his creativity for simply not being a lovable, pale, lanky, racist (who happened to create unimaginable dread).

Also, in the spirit of the internet: plane tickets, bitch.

Too much onion! Eyeman's original (7a) was best.

Yeah, i gotta say i liked that one the most too, seemed most alien.

The eyes on the final build make it too human, sort off. They still look too familiar.
I think it would look better if eyes were more like on 7a - blobs of organic matter style.

If you can't tell, I guess it needs more work, but we were going for "Troll".

How exactly is what Scott is showing inconsistent with Lovecraft? And I believe all Scott said was that he was going to use Lovecraft and his contemporaries as guidance, but not the later stuff.

I've had the misfortune to hear about a modern author's GOO that looks like an onion (Oorn), and Clark Ashton Smith had a demon flower (Vulth-something?) that bears a certain resemblance.

Ahhh good, this thread has settled down and I can safely weigh in.

Firstly I have petitioned Scott many times to change Cyclopean to a Clark Ashton Smith game. He persists with Lovecraft for some reason or other.

Secondly, I LOVE the onion. Seriously, I love it. Creepy, bizarre and just what we need.

Onions make you cry by just looking at them. If there was any food which was considered badass, it has to be an onion.
